Arosa - surroundings

Magnificent footpaths through the pine-forests and flower-spangled Alpine meadows: north over the Maran plateau to Alp Prätschli (2,000 m/6,562ft; ski-lift), one hour from Inner-Arosa past the Schwellisee (1,919 m/6,296ft) to the romantic Aelplisee (2,192 m/7,192ft), 1.75 hours; from the Untersee up the Welschtobel gorge to the waterfalls on the Alteinbach, one hour. The best climbs are the Aroser Weisshorn (2,653 m/8,704ft), 2.5 hours by way of the Mittlere Hütte, easy, and the Aroser Rothorn (2,984 m/9,791ft), four hours, rather more difficult, with superb views.
