Arnstadt New Palace

(Local Name: Neues Palais) The Arnstadt Neues Palais, a Baroque building erected in 1728-32, now houses a museum, with the famous Mon Plaisir collection of 400 dolls, displayed in 84 rooms. The dolls, made by ladies of the court and by craftsmen at the behest of Princess Augusta Dorothea, give a faithful picture of life at a German princely court of the early 18th C and of the living and working conditions of ordinary people.
The palace also contains a valuable collection of Brussels tapestries of the Renaissance period, including the two famous "Monkey Tapestries", and a collection of East Asian and Meissen porcelain of the first half of the 18th C and Dorotheenthal faience. In the south wing is a Baroque porcelain cabinet.
