Benton - Gann Museum of Saline County
The Gann Museum is housed in a building that was constructed of bauxite and is the only known structure of its kind in the world made of this material. The bauxite was dug from a nearby farm, hand-sawed into blocks, and allowed to harden. It was donated to the city of Benton by Dr. Dewell Gann who asked that it be used as a library. The structure originally housed the medical office of Dr. Gann and it was erected by patients who could not afford to pay the doctor. The museum houses a collection of antiques and memorabilia from the area.
Lower White River Museum, Des Arc, Arkansas
The Lower White River Museum in Des Arc offers information on pioneer life along the White River. State-of-the art exhibits tell the story with life-sized figures that present an oral history.Exhibits in the Lower White River Museum highlight agriculture, Civil War, pearling and button-making, timber, education, fishing and hunting, medicine and riverboats. These were important during the frontier days.Next door to the museum is a replica of a late 1800s dogtrot log cabin, owned by Prairie County.
Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie (formerly Agricultural Museum), Stuttgart, Arkansas
Stuttgart, founded around 1880 by a German from Swabia in southern Germany and named after the Swabian capital, is now a centre for rice growing and water fowl hunting. It has an interesting Agricultural Museum illustrating the development of farming in the prairies.The Museum of the Arkansas Grand Prairie highlights the history of the agriculture and pioneers who farmed the area. Exhibits include rice milling, fish farming, crop dusting, an antique decoy collection and Waterfowl art.
Faulkner County Museum, Conway, Arkansas
The Faulkner County Museum offers displays on the history of the area, including artifacts, equipment, household items, clothing, crafts, and photographs. Exhibits at the Faulkner County Museum highlight how prehistoric to present day inhabitants have adapted to the local conditions.The museum is housed in the old jail on the Faulkner County courthouse grounds.
Grant County Museum, Sheridan, Arkansas
The Grant County Museum offers exhibits on the pioneer era, American Indians, the Civil War, and the history of Grant County. Also on site are a number of 19th C log buildings. Some of the more notable displays include a collection of military vehicles, Civil War Red River Expedition room and details of the Arkansas Louisiana Gas Company.
Joe Hogan State Fish Hatchery, Lonoke, Arkansas
Joe Hogan Fish Hatchery is one of the world's largest warm-water working fish hatcheries. The main species are largemouth bass, black and white crappie, bluegill and channel catfish.The visitor center at Joe Hogan Fish Hatchery has an aquarium and an observation platform.
Morrilton, Arkansas
The Ozark National Forest is located to the north of Morrilton and the Ouachita National Forest to the south. The town of Morrilton was built along the Little Rock & Fort Smith Railroad in the 1870s. The Arkansas River borders the south edge of town and separates it from Petit Jean Mountain.
Petit Jean State Park, Morrilton, Arkansas
On Petit Jean Mountain, this state park features the 95 foot Cedar Falls, Cedar Creek Canyon, Indian Cave, Bear Cave, Rock House Cave, Turtle Rock, the Grotto and Petit Jean Natural Bridge.The Park is named after a legendary French girl who is said to have disguised herself as a boy and followed her boyfriend to America.
Museum of Automobiles
The Museum of Automobiles near Morrilton exhibits a wide range of vehicles dating from 1904 to the late 1960s. Also on display are antique guns, license plates, and other miscellaneous collectibles. The museum also offers car sales.
Scott, Arkansas
The town of Scott is located in central Arkansas and has a focus on local history. The Scott Plantation Settlement is a group of buildings that represents an example of a plantation-era community. The settlement provides historical information about Scott.
Toltec Mounds State Park
Although they are named for the Mexican Toltec Indians, these prehistoric earthworks were probably built by American Indians. This unique mound complex was the cultural center of a group of Native Americans that archeologists call the Plum Bayou people, who inhabited the area from A.D. 650 to 1050. Three mounds remain, where 18 once stood, surrounded by an earthen embankment eight to ten feet in height, a portion of which is still visible today. There is a 3/4 mi self-guiding tour through the site and the visitor center provides interpretive exhibits.
Plantation Agriculture Museum
Plantation Agriculture Museum is housed in a 1912 general store the museum focuses on the history of the cotton industry and plantation life.Plantation life from statehood through to World War II is featured through various exhibits.
Lake Ouachita State Park, Mountain Pine, Arkansas
Located 12mi. north of Mountain Pine, Lake Ouachita State Park covers 370 acres and includes the largest man-made lake in Arkansas. Lake Ouachita is ideal for swimming, water skiing, scuba diving, boating and fishing.
North Little Rock, Arkansas
North Little Rock, on the north side of the Arkansas River, was part of Little Rock prior to 1917 when it became a separate city. One of the cities better known sights is The Old Mill where the opening scene of "Gone with the Wind" was filmed.
Burns Park
Burns Park covers 1,575 acres and includes fitness trails, a 27 hole golf course, miniature golf, a children's playground, indoor tennis and racquetball courts. Burns Park features rugby fields, several basketball courts, batting cages, a five-diamond softball area, six indoor and six outdoor tennis courts as well as indoor handball, racquetball and wallyball courts.
Verizon Arena
The Verizon Arena is a state-of-the-art multi-purpose facility. It plays host to UALR Basketball, Arkansas Twisters Arena Football 2 Team, Figure Skating exhibitions, rodeos, motorsport events and concerts.
Wild River Country
Wild River Country features a wave pool and other water based activities, as well as a children's play area. Volleyball and basketball are also available.
