The town of Williams was founded in the late 1800's and named for Bill Williams, the famous trapper and mountain man. The town has a historic district with restored shops and saloons, and bills itself as the "Gateway to the Grand Canyon".
Grand Canyon Deer Farm, located east of Williams, is a petting zoo with deer, llamas, donkeys and other tame animals. There are 60-80 fallow deer who will greet visitors and their fawns are seen throughout the park from June to August.

The Grand Canyon Railway operates a restored 1923 coach that travels from Williams to the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. During the tour, the crew presents local and Grand Canyon folklore and history while strolling musicians visit the cars. As well an old fashioned shoot out and train robbery delight the passengers!
