San Francisco Peaks Ranger District

Arizona Snowbowl is a ski area with 2,300 feet of vertical drop, 31 trails and 4 chairlifts.

During the summer months, the Scenic Skyride provides panoramic views above an extinct volcano for over 70 miles. Arizona's highest mountain is also ideal for hiking and wildlife viewing.

The Elden Pueblo Archeological Project in the Coconino National Forest has educational programs about archaeological research. Elden Pueblo is the site of an ancient Sinagua village that was inhabited between 1070 and 1275.

Kachina Peaks Wilderness is a mountainous part of the Coconino National Forest, located just north of Flagstaff. The area includes Humphreys Peak, the highest point in Arizona at 12,643 feet. There are many traces of volcanic activity and ice age glaciation in the Kachina Peaks, which are sacred to several western Indian tribes including the Zuni, Havasupai, Hopi and Navajo.

Kendrick Mountains Wilderness straddles the boundary between the Coconino and Kaibab National Forests. Formed by the ancient San Francisco Mountain volcanic field, Kendrick Mountain has an elevation of 10,418 feet.

Mount Elden is a 9,299-foot peak on the north end of Flagstaff.

Strawberry Crater Wilderness is located in the Coconino National Forest, 20 miles north and east of Flagstaff. Strawberry Crater dates back more than 50,000 years and is one of 600 craters and cones in the San Francisco Mountain volcanic field.
