House Rock Buffalo Ranch

A herd of 75 to 100 buffalo are maintained at House Rock Buffalo Ranch, 21 miles south of U.S. 89A in House Rock Valley. House Rock Buffalo Ranch is also home to antelope, bobcat, coyote, fox, mountain lion, rabbits, squirrels and a variety of birds.

Kaibab Plateau

The Kaibab Plateau, from which Kaibab National Forest gets its name, is one of five plateaus that make up the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It has elevations up to 9,000 feet, and is bordered to the east and west by tributary canyons of the Colorado River.

The Kaibab Plateau is covered with ponderosa pine and mixed conifer forests and there is an abundance of wildlife.

Kanab Creek Wilderness

Kanab Creek Wilderness is part of the Kaibab National Forest, located on the western edge of the Kaibab plateau. Kanab Creek is one of the major tributaries of the Colorado River. Some of the recreational opportunities include backpacking, camping, wildlife viewing, horseback riding, sightseeing and photography.

Saddle Mountain Wilderness

Saddle Mountain Wilderness occupies 40,600 acres of the Kaibab National Forest, to the north of the Grand Canyon. Views of the Grand Canyon, Marble Gorge, Cocks Comb, House Rock Valley, and the Vermilion Cliffs can be seen from the various trails. Visitors to Saddle Mountain can enjoy day hiking, backpacking, cross-country skiing, and winter camping. The wilderness area received its name because from a distance, the ridge has the appearance of a saddle.
