The Mesa Ranger District is part of the Tonto National Forest. It consists of approximately 430,000 acres of desert, semi-desert Grassland, and Pinyon-Juniper types of vegetation.

Four Peaks Wilderness
Four Peaks Wilderness is part of the Tonto National Forest, covering approximately 60,740 acres. The Peaks are located in the southern end of the Mazatzal mountain range, northeast of Apache Junction. Elevations range from 1,600 feet to 7,657 feet.
Saguaro Lake
Saguaro Lake is one of the four man-made lakes on the Salt River northeast of Phoenix.
Superstition Mountain
Superstition Mountain was known to the Pima Indians as Ka-Katak-Tami (meaning "The Crooked Top Mountain"), but got its current name from farmers who mocked the Pimas' fear of it. The mythical Lost Dutchman Mine of Jacob Waltz is said to be located somewhere nearby.
Superstition Wilderness
The Superstition Wilderness area is part of the Tonto National Forest, and includes the famous Superstition Mountain and Weaver's Needle. The area includes 160,200 acres of rugged terrain, reaching elevations between 2,000 and 6,265 feet.
Weaver's Needle
Weaver's Needle is a 4,553 foot pinnacle in the Superstition Wilderness, named after prospector Pauline Weaver.
