Lake Mead National Recreation Area Highlights

Lake Mead

Lake Mead is the largest artificial lake in the United States, held back by Hoover Dam. It is 110 miles long, and holds the equivalent of two years' flow of the Colorado River.

Hoover Dam

Hoover Dam is one of the world's great engineering marvels, a massive structure completed in 1935. The dam crosses the Colorado River, linking Arizona and Nevada. It is 726 feet high and 1,244 feet long.

Lake Mohave

Lake Mohave is 67 miles long, making it the smaller of the two major lakes in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area. Like its counterpart, Lake Mohave is an artificial body of water, held back by Davis Dam.

Davis Dam

Davis Dam, near Bullhead City, is the structure responsible for the creation of Lake Mohave. The area below Davis Dam is suitable for for fishing, boating, swimming, water skiing, waverunners, camping, picnicking, exploring, and photography.

Mount Wilson Wilderness

The 23,900 acre Mount Wilson Wilderness area is located in the vicinity of Lake Mead. Mount Wilson itself peaks at 5,445 feet, and provides stunning views of the lake and surrounding area. Wildlife in the area includes desert bighorn sheep.

Willow Beach

Willow Beach is a small town on the Colorado River. The town has a resort, hotel, restaurant, marina and fish hatchery - perfect for travelers to the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
