Fort Defiance, Arizona Tourism
Fort Defiance was established by Colonel Edwin Vose Sumner in 1851, and abandoned after the Civil War. Kit Carson used the fort as his headquarters against the Navajo in 1863 and 1864. The old fort is gone, but the town remains an administrative center for the Navajo Indian Reservation.
