The town of Dragoon is located halfway between Willcox and Benson, just off Interstate 10. Dragoon, and the local Dragoon Mountains, takes its name from a U.S. Cavalry unit. The town is home to the Amerind Foundation Museum, and close to the Cochise Stronghold.
The Amerind Foundation Museum in Dragoon is an archeological research facility and museum started by William Fulton in 1937 to increase awareness of Native American culture. One of the finest private collections of Native American art and artifacts is found at the Amerind Foundation Museum.
Exhibits include artifacts, crafts, photographs and art. The art gallery features works with a Western theme, and paintings and furnishings from the 17th C. The story of America's first peoples from Alaska to South America is the main focus of the Amerind Foundation Museum.
