The town of Camp Verde is located in the Verde Valley at 3,100 feet elevation. It was established in 1865 to serve as a farming community for the surrounding mining towns.
Fort Verde was the primary base for General Crook's soldiers who fought against the Apache and Yavapai Indian uprisings in the late 19th C. Three historic house museums are featured at Fort Verde - Commanding Officer's Quarters, Bachelors' Quarters and Doctor's Quarters on Officer's Row, all have been furnished in the 1880s period.
Exhibits in the former Administration building include period artifacts on military life, Indian Scouts and the Indian Wars.
