Grotta del Vento

 
After Barga an interesting detour of some 9km/5.5mi on the SS 445 can be made into the Parco Naturale della Apuane to visit the Grotta del Vento at Fornovolasco. This limestone cavern with stalactites and stalagmites cast in bizarre shapes beside an underground stream, is the principal tourist attraction in the Garfagnana. It is possible to penetrate as much as 3.5km/2mi into the cave, the various walks taking from one to three hours.
