Description
(Local Name: Rockoxhuis) Nicolaus Rockox, art collector and burgomaster of Antwerp, was a friend and patron of Rubens. In 1603 he acquired Nos. 10-12 Keizerstraat, a street a little to the north of the Sint-Jacobskerk. Rockoxhuis, easily recognized by its white facade, became a museum in 1977. In addition to rare period furniture, porcelain, glass and ceramics, it is endowed with a magnificent collection of paintings. These include two by Rubens, "Mary Worshipping the Sleeping Infant Jesus" and a sketch of the "Crucifixion" which once belonged to George Sand, as well as works by Jordaens, Massys, Teniers, Snyders, van Dyck and others.
