Antwerp - Meir
The Meir is Antwerp's main shopping street. Meirbrug, in the center of which stands a modern memorial to Anton Van Dyck, links the inner nucleus of the Old City with the eastern part. The Torengebouw, at the western end of the Meir, was Europe's first skyscraper.

Commercial Exchange
Off to the left of the Meir coming from Meirbrug the Handelsbeurs (Commercial Exchange) in Twaalfmaandenstraat was erected in 1868-72 as a replacement for Dominic de Waghemakere's original (1531) destroyed by fire in 1858. In its latterday role as an international culture center (I.C.C.), it provides a venue for exhibitions of contemporary art.
