Antibes - Château Grimaldi Musée Picasso

 
The former castle of the Grimaldis stands to the south of the cathedral n Antibes. When it was built in the 16th C. remains of the Roman fort were used in its construction. However, the defensive tower dates from the 13th/14th C.

Today the castle contains the interesting Musée Picasso, a collection of modern and contemporary art, with works by Pablo Picasso, de Stael, Ernst, Mirô, Léger, Hartung, Atlan, Richier, Adami, Modigliani, Saura, Cesar, Arman and Alechinsky.

There is also a wall tapestry "Judith and Holofernes", by Jean Cocteau.

The first floor is devoted to Picasso himself, with exhibits of pictures, ceramics and sculptures which he produced during a two month stay in the castle in 1946.
