Ani - Menüçehr Camii
Built in 1074 by Ani's first Seljuk governor, the Menüçehr Camii with its octagonal minaret is thought to be the oldest Seljuk mosque in Anatolia. Situated on the edge of the gorge, south of the city wall, the multi-storeyed building, which has a crypt with tombs, was severely damaged sometime around 1890. Although the windows and interior (columned hall) are Persian in style, the use made of different colored stone to relieve the facade is typical of Christian Armenian churches.
