Valira d'Orient Valley

From Les Escaldes (alt. 1,105 m/3,626ft), north of Andorra la Vella on the road to the French frontier, a narrow and winding road leads up to the Capilla de Sant Miquel d'Engolasters, a typical example of the Pyrenean churches in Lombard Romanesque style which probably dates from the 12th century From here it is possible to walk to the Estany d'Engolasters, an artificial lake created by a dam. Les Escaldes was the home of the Catalonian sculptor Josep Viladomat, many of whose works are displayed in the Josep Viladomat Museum. Other features of interest in the village are the ruined Capilla Sant Roma and an old bridge, the Pont dels Escalls, while a museum houses scale models of Andorra's Romanesque churches.

Les Escaldes is also a popular spa (sulfurous water).
