A little way north of the old-world little village of Canillo, which has Andorra's tallest church-tower, is the chapel of Sant Joan de Caselles, one of the finest Romanesque chapels in the principality, dating from the 11th-12th century. Notable features of the interior, which is decorated with frescoes, are a retablo of 1525 ("St John and the Apocalypse"), the choir grille and a Romanesque stucco figure of Christ on the Cross, surrounded by polychrome painting.
