Albi - Palais de la Berbie

In Albi, a little way southwest of the Hôtel de Ville is the handsome 18th C mansion in which Toulouse- Lautrec was born. It contains a few mementos of the painter and works by him. Adjoining the Toulouse-Lautrec mansion is a Wax Museum, with displays illustrating local history.

The Toulouse-Lautrec Museum, installed in the Palais de la Berbie in Albi in 1923, contains numerous pictures, drawings and lithographs by the Albi-born painter, together with over 400 works by his contemporaries (including Degas, Rodin, Matisse, Maillol and Rouault).

From the second Lautrec Room and from the terraced gardens of the palace there are fine views of the Tarn valley and the old bridge spanning the river.

The museum also displays antiquities and applied arts.
