Talkeetna is a small town, at the junction of three rivers, that was once a supply station for prospectors, and has become a popular base for pursuing outdoor recreational opportunities. The area offers rafting, boating, fishing, hiking, biking, sigtseeing trips, cross country skiing, dog sledding and snowmobiling.
The Museum of Northern Adventure features cultural and natural history exhibits on northern Alaska. On display are dioramas, wax figures, photos, and documents. The museum is housed in a 70 year old Alaska Railroad building.
A trophy room in the Museum of Northern Adventure houses big game and other wildlife taxidermy.

The Talkeetna Historical Society Museum features displays in building replicas, including a log cabin, schoolhouse, railroad depot, and a old house. An item of note is the large scale model of Mount McKinley.
