Mount McKinley

Located in Denali National Park and Preserve, Mount McKinley is the highest mountain in North America at 20,320 feet. It was known as Denali, meaning the high one, to the early Athabascan Indians.

Mount McKinley has two peaks, South Peak, which is the true summit and North Peak, which is 2 mi away. For most of the year the mountain is covered with snow and ice.

Views of Mount McKinley can be enjoyed from the park road, weather permitting. In the summer months, clouds hide the summit for about 75 per cent of the time and during the rest of the year it is hidden about 60 per cent of the time.

There are five glaciers that flow of Mount McKinley - Peters Glacier to the northwest, Muldrow Glacier to the northeast, Traleika Glacier on the eastern side, Ruth Glacier lies to the southeast and Kahiltna Glacier leads up to the southwest side of the mountain.
