Located on the Baldwin Peninsula, Kotzebue (pop. 3,082) is the second-largest Eskimo community in North America. The town was named for Otto Von Kotzebue, a German sailor who explored the area in 1818.

Kotzebue is 33 miles above the Arctic Circle in a treeless tundra. Of interest in the town is the NANA Museum of the Arctic.
