Historic Blakeley State Park was created to preserve the site of the last major battle of the Civil War which ended with the surrender of General Robert E. Lee at Appomattox Courthouse. Prehistoric Indian mounds abound through the 3,800 acres. Re-enactments of the battle are held annually in April.
