Punta de la Parata

A beautiful coast road runs west from Ajaccio for 2.5km/1.5mi to the Chapelle des Grecs (1632), and then passes a cemetery containing numerous small domed tombs (a type reminiscent of Moslem models) belonging to leading citizens of Ajaccio. At the end of the road is the Punta de la Parata, with the Tour de la Parata, one of the 90 or so Genoese watchtowers scattered round the island. From the tower there are magnificent views, particularly of the four uninhabited islands known as the Iles Sanguinaires.
