Aigle Castle Description
(Local Name: Château) Renowned as one of the most important castle sites in Switzerland, the 12th C. Château d'Aigle towers above the town. It has a square keep, numerous small towers and a balcony from which boiling pitch was poured down. This former residence of the Bernese provincial governors served as the district prison until 1972 and today houses an important viticultural museum.
