Åbenrå Museum

The town's seafaring tradition is documented in the Åbenrå Museum at H. P. Hanssens Gade 33B. Owners and captains often had pictures painted of their ships, and the shipping section of the museum exhibits a collection of about 200 such paintings as well as ships in bottles. There is also an interesting collection of souvenirs brought back by sailors from all over the world.

Other departments are concerned with pre- and early history, ethnology (especially objects from China) and Danish painting of the 19th and 20th centuries. In front of the museum stands a sculpture "Seated Youth" (Siddende Dreng), by Astrid Noack. Jacob-Michelsen-Gård, an old courtyard with a house dating from 1704, forms a part of the museum.
